Periodontal Surgery For Severe Periodontitis
When non-surgical treatment and remedies are ineffective, periodontal surgery may be necessary in severe peridontitis. This can help manage and prevent further destruction of the gums and bone thereby reducing tooth loss. In periodontal surgery, complete cleansing of the tooth is made by deeply eradicating bacterial deposits in the gums and teeth which can’t be done by brushing and flossing alone. This facilitates the restoration of periodontal structure. The type of surgical technique and procedure depends on the type and severity of gum infection. There are two most commonly used procedures done in periodontal surgery. Pocket reduction is made gaining access to the deeper areas of roots of the teeth thereby thoroughly cleansing the damaged part. Another method is regenerative surgery in which bone grafting and implants are done to rebuild bone structures caused by lost teeth.
